The National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, is expected to participate in the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) this May in Baku. This was reported by the Azerbaijani news portal Report, citing a statement by the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan, Gurbanmammet Elyasov.
“It is expected that the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, will take part in the forum. His visit will highlight Turkmenistan’s commitment to active participation in the international dialogue on sustainable urban development,” the Ambassador said.
WUF13 will be held in Baku from 17 to 22 May 2026. The Ambassador noted that the forum will be a significant milestone in advancing the global agenda for sustainable urban development and strengthening international cooperation in modern urban planning.
“In Turkmenistan, priority is given to housing construction, modernization, and creating comfortable living conditions for the population. A key focus of our state urban policy is the formation of a favorable, modern, and safe urban environment. This course is clearly demonstrated by the capital city, Ashgabat, as well as the city of Arkadag, both of which showcase dynamic development and a comprehensive approach to planning urban infrastructure,” the envoy emphasized.
The World Urban Forum (WUF) was established in 2001 by the United Nations to examine one of the most pressing issues facing the world today: rapid urbanization and its impact on communities, cities, economies, climate change, and policies.
Convened by UN‑Habitat, the Forum is a high‑level, open, and inclusive platform for addressing the challenges of sustainable urbanization. ///nCa, 17 March 2026
