On 17–18 October 2026, the 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) took place in Baghdad, attended by a delegation from Turkmenistan, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
A major outcome of the meeting was the adoption, at the initiative of Turkmenistan, of the resolution titled “The Role of the Policy of Neutrality in Maintaining and Strengthening International Peace, Security, and Sustainable Development in the OIC Area and Worldwide.”
This resolution once again received full support from the Organization’s member states, reaffirming international recognition of the significance of neutrality policy as an effective tool for consolidating peace, security, and sustainable development.
During the session, participants addressed pressing issues on the international and regional agenda, the strengthening of peace and security, as well as the expansion of political, trade, economic, and humanitarian cooperation among OIC member states.
The Turkmen delegation delivered a statement outlining the country’s priority areas of cooperation with the OIC. Particular attention was given to Turkmenistan’s foreign policy initiatives aimed at bolstering international trust, developing dialogue and preventive diplomacy, and ensuring the primacy of international law.
In this context, delegates highlighted the significance of Turkmenistan’s initiative—supported by the UN General Assembly—declaring 2028 as the Year of International Law.
The meeting also specifically addressed expanding cooperation in education, science, and culture. Notably, it was highlighted that in 2026 Turkmenistan obtained observer status in the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), opening new opportunities for deeper engagement in these sectors.
Furthermore, the Turkmen side expressed keen interest in further strengthening partnerships with OIC member states in trade, economics, energy, transport, communications, and humanitarian affairs. /// nCa, 19 October 2026
