Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty, visited the city of Arkadag on Monday to review progress on the second phase of its construction. The visit came a day before Remembrance Day, observed in Turkmenistan on October 6 in memory of the victims of the 1948 Ashgabat earthquake.
He began at the Arkadagyň ruhy metjidi mosque, designed to hold 30,000 worshippers, where he inspected the main building, the doors and the finishing materials. He also visited the 1,500-seat sadaqah hall and the madrasah under construction, stressing that the interior, lighting and furnishing should follow Islamic canons. The mosque’s chief imam led prayers for the souls of the departed, and for the country, its people and the nation’s leadership.
He then held a working meeting with D. Orazov, Chairman of the State Committee for Construction of the City of Arkadag, and G. Mammedova, the city’s mayor. Orazov reported on social facilities, including a specialized foreign-language school and a kindergarten.
Berdimuhamedov called for modern classroom design, multimedia equipment and closer ties with international partners in education.
Officials also presented plans for the city’s medical cluster, covering equipment, finishing materials and landscaping, along with design projects for sports complexes. Berdimuhamedov said the city should be built on the “smart city” concept, with residential buildings, environmental standards and street lighting meeting advanced requirements. He urged thorough preparation for the second phase’s opening ceremony, and for upcoming events marking Healthcare and Medical Industry Workers’ Day and the handover of new homes. He also called for expanding the orchards around the city.
