Uzbekistan plans to declare 2027 as the Year of Preventive Diplomacy during its upcoming chairmanship in the Non-Aligned Movement. The initiative is aimed at supporting efforts to resolve conflicts in the interests of future generations. This was stated by President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the International Forum of Peace and Trust in Ashgabat on 12 December.
According to Mirziyoyev, the main priorities of Uzbekistan’s upcoming chairmanship in the Non-Aligned Movement will be supporting a culture of peace and non-violence, strengthening trust in interstate relations through political dialogue, and promoting an atmosphere of tolerance, mutual understanding, and solidarity in the world.
Mirziyoyev expressed hope that relevant UN institutions, including the Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy in Ashgabat, will actively participate in implementing the events of the Year of Preventive Diplomacy.
At the high-level forum in Ashgabat, the leader of Uzbekistan proposed holding an international humanitarian forum “Dialogue of Cultures” next year, involving creative groups, scientists, and writers.
In addition, Tashkent proposes launching a regional program “Youth for Peace and Trust,” aimed at involving the younger generation in the process of strengthening peace and trust through the joint implementation of educational, cultural, and volunteer initiatives.
“Cooperation based on mutual respect, trust, and solidarity is capable of bringing the most ambitious plans to life. Therefore, it is very important to promote them through humanitarian interaction,” Mirziyoyev believes.
The President of Uzbekistan highly praised Turkmenistan’s peaceful policy, which, in his opinion, is “an important factor in ensuring stability and development in Central Asia.”
“Ashgabat played a major role in resuming high-level dialogue within the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, organizing the first summit of heads of member states of the IFAS in many years in 2018,” the Uzbek leader recalled.
He called the holding of the third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries in Avaza in August of this year a significant contribution to the formation of a unified transport and logistics space in the region.
The head of Uzbekistan noted the complete alignment of Uzbekistan’s and Turkmenistan’s approaches to issues of promoting the peaceful development of Afghanistan by involving it in regional economic processes and strengthening infrastructure connectivity.
In addition, Mirziyoyev highlighted Ashgabat’s initiatives on ensuring energy and water security, sustainable transport connectivity, as well as protecting the region’s ecosystems, organically complement Uzbekistan’s efforts in Central Asia.
He expressed confidence that these proposals from Turkmenistan, “which are based on noble ideas of peace and trust, will find worthy reflection in the agenda of the country’s chairmanship in the format of Consultative Meetings of Heads of State of Central Asia.” ///nCa, 12 December 2025.
