At the government meeting on Friday, 25 April 2025, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov reported on efforts to strengthen Turkmenistan’s partnership with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
A series of proposals aimed at further developing Turkmenistan’s engagement with the OIC have been prepared.
A Turkmen delegation will participate in the 51st session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers, scheduled for 20–21 June 2025, in Istanbul.
At Turkmenistan’s initiative, the session is expected to adopt a Resolution titled “The Role of Neutrality Policy in Strengthening International Peace, Security, and Sustainable Development in OIC Member States and Worldwide.”
Additionally, on the sidelines of the session, in recognition of 2025 as the “International Year of Peace and Trust,” it was proposed to organize a conference dedicated to the theme of peace.
Meredov also presented proposals to explore the possibility of holding OIC ministerial-level meetings in Turkmenistan on topics such as transport, energy, education, agriculture, and environmental protection.
Among the proposals is the potential participation of a Turkmen delegation in the 7th session of the General Assembly of the Islamic Organization for Food Security, scheduled for July 1–2, 2025, in Astana, Kazakhstan.
Summarizing the report, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov approved the proposals and emphasized that developing relations with international organizations is a key aspect of neutral Turkmenistan’s foreign policy.
In this context, he underscored the importance of continuing efforts to further expand the country’s cooperation with the OIC.
In 2012, Ashgabat hosted the International Conference “Refugees in the Muslim World,” organized by the Government of Turkmenistan in collaboration with the OIC and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees. The forum resulted in the adoption of the Ashgabat Declaration.
Additionally, in 2021, the second OIC Summit on Science and Technology was held virtually, with participation from the National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. ///nCa, 28 April 2025
