Japanese Minister for Foreign Affairs Motegi Toshimitsu will undertake an official visit to Turkmenistan, Slovakia, Austria, and Mongolia from 29 August to 4 September 2026. The upcoming diplomatic tour was announced in a statement released by Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs).
During his stop in Turkmenistan, Minister Motegi is scheduled to hold high-level bilateral talks with his Turkmen counterpart and senior government officials.
The discussions will center on deepening bilateral economic and technical cooperation, particularly leveraging Japan’s advanced expertise in energy, infrastructure, science, and technology.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, the multi-nation visit comes amid an increasingly complex international environment. Tokyo seeks to use these engagements to reaffirm strategic alignment with partner nations to support and uphold a free and open international order anchored in the rule of law, guided by Japan’s updated “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” (FOIP) vision.
Beyond Ashgabat, Minister Motegi’s itinerary includes participation in the 8th Meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Visegrad Group (V4) plus Japan in Slovakia, as well as official meetings in Austria and Mongolia.///nCa, 28 August 2026
