On Thursday, 20 August, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov received Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Muhriddin, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan (TDH) reports.
The talks focused on bilateral political, economic and cultural cooperation, as well as preparations for upcoming regional summits.
The Tajik Foreign Minister stressed that further expanding cooperation with Turkmenistan remains one of the priorities of Tajikistan’s foreign policy.
President Berdimuhamedov noted that Turkmenistan and Tajikistan actively cooperate both bilaterally and through multilateral platforms. This is reflected in their mutual support for initiatives aimed at promoting global peace, stability and sustainable development within the UN, CIS, Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) and other international organizations, as well as through the “Central Asia +” (“C5+1”) format.
Berdimuhamedov noted that, as part of Turkmenistan’s chairmanship of the CIS this year, the National Tourist Zone of Avaza is scheduled to host a regular meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State, as well as a Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and Azerbaijan. The upcoming events are expected to contribute to expanding multilateral cooperation across the region.
The sides emphasized the importance of trade and economic partnership in bilateral relations, highlighting the role of the Joint Turkmen-Tajik Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov pointed to significant potential for cooperation in the energy, transport and agricultural sectors.
Cultural and humanitarian ties remain an integral part of the bilateral dialogue. The sides expressed their intention to continue actively supporting cooperation in this area by organizing joint thematic events.
At the end of the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin expressed confidence in the continued dynamic development of friendly Turkmen-Tajik relations. ///nCa, 21 August 2026.
