On 12 August, Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov held a series of meetings in Awaza with representatives of international organizations and the diplomatic community accredited in the country. Discussions centered on international and regional cooperation, security, migration, and the environmental sustainability of the Caspian region.
In particular, Meredov met with UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan Xiaojun Grace Wang. The parties discussed priority areas of interaction between Ashgabat and the United Nations, as well as further coordination and practical cooperation.
Special attention was paid to upcoming joint events and the promotion of Turkmenistan’s international initiatives within the UN framework. The two sides also highlighted the need for joint efforts to ensure environmental sustainability and preserve the ecosystem of the Caspian Sea.
At a meeting with the European Union Ambassador to Turkmenistan, Beata Peksa, the Minister discussed the state and prospects of Turkmen-European cooperation, alongside pressing issues on the international and regional agendas.
Both sides emphasized the importance of consistent political dialogue and constructive interaction for the further expansion of Turkmenistan–EU cooperation. The significance of joint work in environmental protection and the preservation of the Caspian Sea ecosystem was also underscored.
During the meeting with the Head of the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat, William Leaf, key areas of interaction between Turkmenistan and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe were discussed.
Among the priorities, the parties highlighted regional security, economic and environmental cooperation, and humanitarian interaction. Particular attention was given to environmental protection and ensuring ecological safety in the Caspian region.
Additionally, Meredov met with Serhan Aktoprak, Head of Mission of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Kazakhstan and IOM Coordinator for Central Asia.
The sides outlined cooperation priorities in managing migration processes, protecting migrants’ rights, and enhancing regional interaction. They also noted the importance of considering environmental factors and sustainable development principles for the Caspian region in international and regional engagement. /// nCa, 12 August 2026
