President Serdar Berdimuhamedov received the credentials of the newly appointed Ambassador of Italy, Martin Bruook, in Ashgabat on Tuesday, reaffirming the steady trajectory of bilateral relations between the two countries.
During the meeting, both sides underscored the long-standing partnership in the energy sector, particularly the role of Eni, which has been active in Turkmenistan for years. The cooperation in hydrocarbons continues to serve as a cornerstone of ties between Ashgabat and Rome.
The discussion also extended to broader regional connectivity. The two sides expressed interest in advancing transport links along the North–South and East–West corridors, reflecting Turkmenistan’s growing role as a transit bridge between Europe and Asia.
Beyond economic cooperation, the talks highlighted cultural and humanitarian engagement. Ongoing archaeological collaborations and the teaching of the Italian language in Turkmen institutions were noted as important elements strengthening people-to-people ties.
Ambassador Brook conveyed Italy’s commitment to deepening cooperation across multiple sectors, emphasizing mutual respect and long-term partnership. /// nCa, 16 April 2026
