HE Eng. Mohamed Hamel, Secretary General of the GECF, participated in the International Forum to Attract Foreign Investments in Turkmenistan’s Economy (#TEIF 2025), held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He delivered a keynote address during the session titled “New Investment Opportunities in Turkmenistan’s Energy Sector: Natural Gas and Monetisation”.
The session also featured notable speakers including HE Maksat Babayev, State Minister of Turkmenistan and Chairman of the State Concern “Turkmengas”, HE Annageldi Saparov, Minister of Energy of Turkmenistan, and Mr. Dovrangeldi Sapbayev, Chairman of the State Concern “Turkmenhimiya”. The event brought together high-level officials, investors, and energy leaders, providing a dynamic platform to foster long-term partnerships and support Turkmenistan’s investment ambitions.
In his address, HE Eng. Mohamed Hamel underscored the critical role of natural gas in ensuring global energy security and supporting sustainable development. He commended Turkmenistan’s efforts to stimulate economic growth and deepen regional economic integration, highlighting the country’s vast natural gas reserves and its flagship projects, including the Galkynysh gas field, the TAPI pipeline, and the expansion of the Central Asia–China gas pipeline.
Citing the GECF Global Gas Outlook 2050, he noted that global demand for natural gas is projected to increase by 32% by 2050, with Asia – led by China and India – accounting for more than half of this growth. He emphasised that Turkmenistan is well-positioned to meet this rising demand, with its gas production expected to exceed 150 billion cubic meters annually by mid-century. In conclusion, HE Eng. Mohamed Hamel expressed his hope for deepening cooperation with Turkmenistan, affirming his belief that energy diplomacy will play a pivotal role in shaping a more secure, sustainable, and prosperous regional and global energy future. ///GECF
