On 24 December 2025, the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, made a working visit to Balkan province, where he reviewed the progress of preparations for hosting a series of major international events in the Awaza National Tourist Zone, scheduled to take place in Turkmenistan in 2026.
Upon arrival at the site of the future international events (Sport Complex Awaza), the National Leader inspected the grand entrance, the landscaping of adjacent territories, and the modern appearance of the complex.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov provided responsible officials with a number of specific recommendations for further improving the exterior and infrastructure.
The Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty paid particular attention to the technical equipment of the complex. He emphasized that the conditions for receiving high-ranking foreign guests must fully comply with the highest international standards.
In this regard, Arkadag Berdimuhamedov highlighted the need for widespread application of innovative technologies and modern digital solutions, including ensuring stable operation of high-speed internet and advanced communication facilities.


At the venue for large-scale conferences, the National Leader stressed the importance of carefully developing the interior design of the halls, color schemes, lighting systems, and acoustics.
Relevant officials presented detailed projects for modernization and finishing of the premises, including conference halls, sectional rooms, and exhibition spaces. They reported on the building materials used, lighting systems, and the schedule of works. All works are being carried out by national construction companies.
The National Leader focused on the organization of international exhibitions to be held as part of the 2026 forums. He emphasized that the expositions should feature the national values, historical and cultural heritage of the Turkmen people, as well as vividly showcase the achievements of all sectors of the economy and successes in the field of social protection of the population.
As part of his visit to the Balkan province, Arkadag conducted an aerial inspection of the Awaza National Tourist Zone by helicopter, reviewing progress on major projects and industrial facilities. Among them were the construction of the Turkmenbashi–Garabogaz–Kazakhstan border highway, the Awaza power plant, the Turkmenbashi International Seaport, and the Garabogazkarbamid urea plant.
