At an expanded Cabinet of Ministers meeting on 13 February 2026, the President of Turkmenistan officially approved the “Program for Socio-Economic Development and Investment for 2026.” This roadmap outlines the nation’s key macroeconomic targets, industrial production quotas, and capital expenditure for the year.
Macroeconomic Targets and Key Indicators
The 2026 strategy aims to sustain the nation’s robust economic momentum:
- GDP Growth: Projected to hold steady at 6.3%.
- Private Sector Expansion: The non-state sector’s contribution to the GDP is targeted to reach 72.9%.
- Job Creation: Approximately 5,300 new jobs will be generated through the commissioning of new industrial enterprises.
- Capital Investment: Total investment from all funding sources is budgeted at approximately 41.2 billion manats.
Enhancing Social Infrastructure
The 2026 Program prioritizes large-scale residential and social development. Over 900,000 square meters of residential space are slated for completion.
New secondary schools (3,380 seats) and preschools (1,080 seats) are under construction. Additionally, new campuses for the Turkmen State Institute of Architecture and Construction and the Seyitnazar Seydi Turkmen State Pedagogical Institute will be inaugurated.
Ashgabat will see the opening of three major facilities: the International Pediatric Center, the International Scientific and Clinical Oncology Center, and a new Dental Center. Furthermore, a 400-bed wing will be added to the Archman Sanatorium.
Strategic Industrial and Construction Projects
Several landmark infrastructure projects are scheduled for completion this year:
- Transport: The Mary–Turkmenabat section of the Ashgabat–Turkmenabat high-speed autobahn will be fully commissioned.
- Energy: Construction of a multiprofile power plant in the Kyzylaryat district s a top priority.
- Urban Development: Intensive construction of residential complexes and shopping malls will continue in Ashgabat (Parahat-7 and Buzmeyin districts), the coastal village of Guvlymayak, and new rural settlements in Kyzylaryat (Balkan province).
- Utilities: Significant capital is earmarked for modernizing road networks, telecommunications, water, gas, and electricity grids, alongside advanced wastewater treatment facilities.
This annual plan was worked out in line with the broader “Presidential Program for Socio-Economic Development 2022–2028,” focused on consistently elevating the standard of living for the people of Turkmenistan. ///nCa, 14 February 2026
