Large-scale celebrations dedicated to International Women’s Day took place across Turkmenistan. Festive events spanned the entire country, marked by the presentation of state awards to mothers of large families, the handing over of keys to new apartments, and the honoring of women across all sectors of public life.
One of the central events of the holiday was the conferring of the honorary title “Ene mähri” (Mother’s Tenderness) upon more than 230 women who have given birth to and raised eight or more children. In addition to high social recognition, holders of this title receive a substantial benefits package, including 30% increases to pensions and childcare allowances.
A special gift for 14 large families in Ashgabat was a housewarming celebration—on the eve of the holiday, they were ceremoniously presented with the keys to new, comfortable apartments.
Furthermore, following established tradition, cash gifts were presented on behalf of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to all women in the country, including employees of enterprises and state institutions, as well as university students, schoolgirls, and kindergarten pupils.
In his holiday address, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized the invaluable role of women in the “Era of the Revival of a New Epoch of a Powerful State.” The Head of State noted that today, Turkmen women are actively proving themselves in all key sectors: public administration and science; healthcare and education; industry, agriculture, and the oil and gas sector.
A special emphasis in the message was placed on the preservation of national heritage. The President described women as the primary guardians of the art of carpet weaving and embroidery, as well as a key link in raising a patriotic and humane younger generation.
On the day of the celebration, the National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, visited the headquarters of the Charitable Foundation for Assistance to Children in Need of Care in the city of Arkadag. There, he delivered a congratulatory speech to women in honor of International Women’s Day.
The National Leader stressed that the Turkmen people have since ancient times revered their mothers and dear women as the keepers of the family hearth and well-being.
“A mother who has given life to a person is a sacred being before whom one should always bow. She is placed on the same level as the Motherland and one’s native land. The very concept of ‘Ene toprak’ (‘Mother Earth’) did not arise by chance. In the words of the poet, we consider a mother to be the ‘beauty and essence of the world’,” Arkadag Berdimuhamedov noted. ////nCa, 9 March 2026
