On Wednesday, 8 April 2026, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov took part in a groundbreaking ceremony for a new modern settlement located in the Ymambaba village council of the Yoloten district, Mary province.
Spanning over 800 hectares, the project is being spearheaded by the Ministry of Construction and Architecture of Turkmenistan. The project will feature 4,500 residential buildings designed to accommodate more than 22,500 residents, including 2,490 five-room houses and 2,010 comfortable three-room buildings.
As the President noted in his speech, the new modern settlement will provide the most comfortable living conditions. It will include an administrative building for the Gengesh (local council), secondary schools, kindergartens, health centers, a House of Culture, and a mosque with a capacity for 1,000 worshippers.
The settlement will be equipped with modern life-support systems, such as a water treatment plant capable of processing 15,000 cubic meters of water per day and a new bus station for transport links.
“Along with other provines, we attach great importance to the socio-economic development of the Mary province. Major industrial enterprises, as well as cultural and social facilities, are regularly commissioned here. Furthermore, in the coming days, we will launch a historically significant project—the start of the fourth phase of the Galkynysh gas field development,” the Head of State announced.
Following the President’s speech, representatives of the Yoloten district community also addressed the attendees.
President Berdimuhamedov then placed a commemorative capsule into the foundation of the future settlement and poured the first loads of concrete into the base of the structure. To mark the occasion, gifts were presented to local children, and a festive sadaka (meal) was organized for the residents.
The construction of this new settlement is part of the ongoing implementation of the “National Program of the President of Turkmenistan on the Transformation of the Social and Living Conditions of the Population of Villages, Settlements, Cities in Districts, and District Centers for the Period up to 2028.” Similar modern villages were opened last year in the Kaka district of the Ahal province and the Kunyaurgench district of the Dashoguz province./// nCa, 9 April 2026
