On 1 April 2026, as part of a working visit to Azerbaijan, the Deputy Prime Minister of Turkmenistan, Nokerguly Atagulyev, held a series of high-level meetings in Baku. The discussions included sessions with:
- Rashad Nabiyev, Minister of Transport, Communications, and High Technologies of Azerbaijan;
- Mikayil Jabbarov, Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan;
- Rovshan Rustamov, Chairman of “Azerbaijan Railways” CJSC;
- Eldar Salakhov, Director of “Baku International Sea Trade Port” CJSC.



According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the following topics were addressed:
- Port Cooperation: Expanding ties between the sea ports of both nations, maximizing the utilization of port capacities, and increasing cargo volumes.
- Transport Corridors: Enhancing existing routes, collaborating on transit corridor projects, and activating international transport-transit corridors passing through both countries.
- Business Relations: Discussing the organization of a business forum and product exhibitions in Ashgabat and Baku, further developing cooperation between the business communities, and identifying new areas of interaction.
- Intergovernmental Commission: Preliminary preparations for the next meeting of the Turkmen-Azerbaijani Intergovernmental Commission, scheduled for later this year.
- Trade: Strategies to boost bilateral trade turnover and expand the range of manufactured goods by fully leveraging the potential of the Caspian Sea.
During the visit, the Turkmen delegation also toured the Baku International Sea Trade Port and the Alat Free Economic Zone (AFEZ) to review their operational capabilities. ///nCa, 2 April 2026
