On 9 March 2026, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan S. Mukhammetdurdyyev met with Jassim Mohammed Al-Attar, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Turkmenistan, according to the foreign ministry of Turkmenistan.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Deputy Foreign Minister expressed gratitude to the Iraqi side for the decision to open an Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Ashgabat.
Turkmenistan noted its readiness to provide all necessary assistance to ensure the full functioning of the diplomatic mission of the brotherly nation.
During the discussions, it was highlighted that the opening of the Iraqi diplomatic mission in Ashgabat will further strengthen bilateral relations across political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian spheres.
The parties explored opportunities for increasing trade and economic ties, including establishing partnerships between the business communities of both countries. They also noted the potential for developing cultural and humanitarian links, specifically in the fields of science, education, sports, and tourism.
