Within the framework of the visit of the delegation of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan to Brussels, an inter-parliamentary meeting was held with Belgian parliamentarians led by Senator of Belgium and Member of the Flemish Parliament Stephanie D’Hose, who previously served as President of the Belgian Senate.
The Turkmen delegation consisted of members of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and was headed by Maksat Kuliyev, Chairman of the Committee of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan on International and Inter-Parliamentary Relations.
During the meeting, the Turkmen side emphasized the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening bilateral relations and informed their Belgian counterparts about the socio-economic reforms being implemented in Turkmenistan, the activities of the Mejlis, and the country’s priorities in the areas of sustainable development, digitalization, industry, environmental protection, and international cooperation. It was also noted that Turkmenistan is interested in further expanding inter-parliamentary and trade and economic contacts with European partners.
The Belgian side, including representatives of the Flemish component of the Senate, expressed interest in Turkmenistan’s economic growth, the key sectors of its economy, and the prospects for further development of bilateral cooperation. Belgian parliamentarians welcomed the strengthening of trade relations between Belgium and Turkmenistan and expressed support for intensifying direct contacts between the business communities of the two countries.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties confirmed their interest in continuing the inter-parliamentary dialogue and further strengthening Turkmen–Belgian relations on a mutually beneficial basis.
