Turkmenistan’s foreign trade and transit potential continues to demonstrate steady growth. According to the latest data from the State Customs Service, by the end of 2025, the total volume of cargo passing through the country’s state borders reached 20 million tons. This figure marks the highest achievement for the transport sector since 2019.
Experts are paying particular attention to the country’s transit capabilities. In 2025, transit volume exceeded 7 million tons, representing a 28% increase over the previous year.
The geography of these shipments underscores Turkmenistan’s status as a key regional logistics hub: transit flows now connect the country with 108 nations worldwide.
The distribution of cargo flows by mode of transport in 2025 is as follows:
- Road transport: 43% (the leading category);
- Sea transport: 28%;
- Rail transport: 27%;
- Air transport: 2%.
The growth in cargo turnover is a result of the systematic work pursued of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan. The agency is actively implementing a range of measures to optimize processes: transitioning to electronic declaration and system automation, modernizing border checkpoints, and ensuring transparency and high-speed customs clearance.///nCa, 20 February 2026
