On 25 March 2026, in Tokyo, a meeting was held between the Ambassador of Turkmenistan, Atadurdy Bayramov, and Japan’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Kunimitsu Ayano. During the talks, the two sides discussed the current state and prospects of partnership between the two countries.
Particular attention at the meeting was given to upcoming high-level contacts. Ambassador A. Bayramov expressed gratitude to the Japanese side for its assistance in organizing the successful visit of the President of Turkmenistan to Japan in December 2025 to participate in the Summit of the “Central Asia plus Japan” Dialogue (CA+JAD).
In turn, Kunimitsu Ayano expressed her willingness to cooperate with Ambassador Bayramov in following up the outcomes of the visit with a view to further developing bilateral relations.
Building on the agreements reached, the Turkmen envoy confirmed Ashgabat’s readiness to organize a visit by Prime Minister of Japan Takaichi Sanae to Turkmenistan at a time convenient for the Japanese side.
During the meeting, the sides discussed the implementation of agreements reached during high-level visits, as well as the key areas of bilateral cooperation, including political-diplomatic, trade-economic, cultural-humanitarian, and inter-parliamentary interaction, cooperation in the field of energy security, and partnership on multilateral platforms.
The Japanese State Minister for Foreign Affairs also expressed gratitude to the top leadership of Turkmenistan for its assistance in establishing a humanitarian corridor that ensured the safe evacuation of Japanese citizens from Iran in connection with the current situation in the country./// nCa, 25 March 2026
