On 27 February 2026, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, received a delegation led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Ahmed Kurbanov. This is reported by the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Turkmenistan.
During the meeting, the dynamic development of the political dialogue aimed at further strengthening friendly and fraternal relations between the two countries was noted with satisfaction, and the importance of visits and contacts at the highest levels was emphasized. In this context, the visits of the President of Azerbaijan to Turkmenistan and Chairman of the Khalk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to Azerbaijan last year were mentioned, as well as the results achieved.
Within the framework of the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, prospects for expanding cooperation in trade, economic, energy, transport and logistics spheres, including cooperation on the Caspian Sea, humanitarian and cultural fields, were considered.
In this regard, the important role of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic and Humanitarian Cooperation in the development of bilateral relations was emphasized.


The importance of organizing the Days of Culture of Turkmenistan in Azerbaijan last year and holding the Days of Culture of Azerbaijan in Turkmenistan this year was noted.
The parties also noted the importance of promoting common values such as carpet weaving and horse breeding.
During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on topical issues on the regional and international agenda, and stressed the importance of further developing cooperation on multilateral platforms.
Political consultations
On the same day, regular political consultations were chaired by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Samir Sharifov and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Ahmed Kurbanov.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, during the consultations, the parties discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation, as well as topical aspects of the regional and international agenda.
Special attention was paid to the development of political and diplomatic dialogue, increasing trade and economic cooperation, cooperation in the transport, logistics and energy sectors, as well as strengthening cultural and humanitarian ties.
Issues related to the holding of upcoming events at the highest level were discussed.
The emphasis was also placed on the importance of inter-parliamentary cooperation as an effective mechanism for developing bilateral relations, strengthening institutional ties and expanding partnership between the countries.
The key role of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Azerbaijani Commission on Economic Cooperation as an important mechanism for coordinating and promoting joint initiatives was noted.
The development of cooperation between business circles, the expansion of direct contacts between entrepreneurs, and the organization of national exhibitions of producers’ products are also recognized as an important area.
The strategic potential of Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan at the junction of Asia and Europe for enhancing cooperation in the transport and transit sphere and the implementation of international transport corridors was emphasized.
Special importance was attached to the expansion of cooperation in the field of education and science, including academic exchanges and the development of partnerships between higher education institutions.
Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their mutual interest in further deepening partnership relations and their willingness to continue constructive dialogue in all areas of mutual interest. ///nCa, 27 February 2026
