A series of meetings dedicated to the development of bilateral relations between the Kingdom of Thailand and Turkmenistan was held in Bangkok. New Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Thailand (with residence in Kuala Lumpur) Mukhammetniyaz Mashalov held talks in key departments, as follows from the message of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
Diplomatic level: meeting at the Thai Foreign Ministry
On 11 February 2026, Ambassador M. Mashalov met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Sihasak Phuangketkeo. The parties discussed in detail the current state of cooperation and prospects for its expansion in various fields.
Special attention was paid to the need to intensify visits at the highest level. Both sides expressed interest in creating a bilateral intergovernmental cooperation mechanism that would be convenient and acceptable for both countries.
The possibility of holding consultations at the level of deputy foreign ministers in Bangkok during 2026 for a comprehensive discussion of topical issues was also considered.
The key point of the meeting was the confirmation of the intention of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn of Thailand to visit Turkmenistan. The Turkmen side expressed its full readiness to work together on all organizational and protocol aspects of this visit. In conclusion, the parties agreed to maintain regular contacts between the foreign ministries to consistently strengthen relations.
Trade and economy: negotiations at the Chamber of Commerce
On 13 February, at the headquarters of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, Ambassador M. Mashalov met with the Vice-President of the Chamber, Suparek Chomchan. The Turkmen side presented an overview of the activities of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan, emphasizing its priorities: creating favorable conditions for entrepreneurship, expanding cooperation with government agencies and promoting national goods and services to foreign markets.
It was noted that the Chamber actively supports domestic producers and exporters, helps them enter international markets, and organizes conferences and exhibitions both domestically and abroad.
The Thai side warmly congratulated the Ambassador on his appointment and confirmed its readiness to fully promote the development of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.
Meeting at the Immigration Bureau
On the same day, at the headquarters of the Thai Migration Service, the Ambassador met with Commissioner of the Immigration Bureau, Police Lieutenant General Panumas Bunyalag.
Turkmenistan proposed to intensify joint work in this area, in particular, to prevent illegal migration, combat related offenses, and create optimal conditions for persons in need of protection in full compliance with international standards. The parties stressed the importance of cooperation with international organizations in this field.
Following the meeting, it was decided to maintain regular contacts for the further development of bilateral cooperation in the migration field.
