A delegation from Turkmenistan led by Parahat Jumayev, Director of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport, currently on a working visit to Azerbaijan, held a meeting with Eldar Salakhov, Director of Baku International Sea Trade Port CJSC. The meeting was also attended by the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan, Gurbanmammet Elyasov, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
During the meeting, it was emphasized that Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan are consistently strengthening their strategic partnership, with a particular focus on developing logistical cooperation between the international seaports of Turkmenbashi and Baku (Alyat). This collaboration aims to increase cargo flow across the Caspian Sea, develop the Middle Corridor, and expand transport links between the two countries amid rising bilateral trade turnover.
The parties also discussed issues related to the development of the Caspian Sea – Black Sea international transit-transport corridor, including prospects for increasing freight traffic through the ports of Turkmenbashi, Baku, Poti, Batumi, and Constanta. The importance of intensifying cooperation with all interested partners, including the European Union, was noted.
Highlighting the global nature and broad prospects of this corridor, the participants also considered establishing an effective system for information exchange.
In recent years, the two sides have actively worked to increase cargo volumes and simplify cross-border and customs procedures. Reduced tariffs for maritime and rail services have contributed to the growth of multimodal transport and the expansion of transit container transshipment.
The route between the ports of Turkmenbashi and Baku (Alyat) continues to facilitate the transshipment of oil, various types of cargo, and rail cars. ///nCa, 27 January 2026
