On 24 March 2026, negotiations were held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and the State Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda, Henry Oryem Okello, who is visiting Ashgabat.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the sides expressed satisfaction with the progressive development of bilateral relations, paying special attention to contacts at the highest and high levels. Emphasis was placed on the foundation laid in 2025: the diplomats highlighted the importance of the visit of Ugandan Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja to the National Tourist Zone Awaza to participate in the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries.
As a practical step to strengthen inter-ministerial ties, the parties agreed to hold the first round of political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of the two countries in Ashgabat in the second half of 2026.
A separate block of the talks was devoted to the prospects of expanding trade and economic relations. The sides expressed interest in creating a platform for business cooperation in the fields of agriculture, the oil and gas sector, and other promising areas.
During the discussion of the international agenda, the ministers confirmed their intention to coordinate efforts within the framework of the United Nations on issues of peace, security, and sustainable development.
The negotiations also touched upon the humanitarian aspects of diplomacy — cooperation in the fields of education, science, and culture.
Following the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their mutual commitment to further expanding mutually beneficial cooperation in all areas of mutual interest. /// nCa, 24 March 2026
