One of the most significant events in the history of domestic chess, the Turkmenistan Team Chess Championship, has officially commenced in the capital. The tournament is being held from 22 to 28 March 2026 at the specialized chess and checkers school in Ashgabat.
This competition marks a historic milestone, as it is being held for the first time since the country’s independence, opening a new chapter in the development of team chess in Turkmenistan.
Twelve of the nation’s strongest teams, representing sports schools, universities, departmental structures, and public organizations, are participating in the championship. The following teams have entered the battle for the title:
- “AŞGABAT” – Specialized Chess and Checkers School
- “ÝAŞLYK” – Specialized Chess and Checkers School
- “NESIL” – Specialized Chess and Checkers School
- “RUHUBELENT” – Sports Club for the Disabled of Ashgabat and Ahal Province
- “BAGTYÝARLYK” – National Sports Games Center of Turkmenistan
- “AHAL” – Sports and Physical Culture Committee of Ahal Province
- “LEBAPCHESS-1” – Sports and Physical Culture Committee of Lebap Province
- “LEBAPCHESS-2” – Sports and Physical Culture Committee of Lebap Province
- “GALKAN” – “Galkan” Sports Club of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Turkmenistan
- “TALYP SPORT” – State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports of Turkmenistan
- “KÜŞTÄLEMI” – “Kusht Alemi” Chess Academy
- “PETRO-CANADA” – “Halk Hazyna” Economic Society
