On 24 February 2026, a working visit of the delegation of Turkmenistan, led by the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland began, reports the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
On the morning of February 25, a meeting was held between Rashid Meredov and the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization, Arsenio Dominguez, during which issues of cooperation in the field of maritime transport and international shipping were discussed.
The Minister emphasized that strengthening ties with international organizations in the transport sector is one of the priority tasks of modern times. In this direction, Turkmenistan consistently interacts with a number of international specialized structures, including the International Maritime Organization.
It was noted that Turkmenistan is working on a systematic basis to ensure compliance with the requirements of international conventions in the field of maritime transport, the introduction of modern shipping safety standards, and the development of the regulatory and legal framework in line with international obligations.
Turkmenistan invariably calls for a comprehensive consideration of transport issues not only at the national and regional levels but also on a global scale. At the initiative of Turkmenistan, the UN General Assembly has adopted a series of resolutions aimed at forming a qualitatively new format for international cooperation in the transport sector.
he significance of active engagement with the UN was further underscored, as evidenced by the hosting of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries in the ‘Avaza’ National Tourist Zone in August 2025.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Turkmen side confirmed its readiness for the further development of constructive dialogue with the International Maritime Organization and the implementation of joint projects in the field of sustainable and safe maritime communication. ///nCa, 25 February 2026
