President of Turkmenistan and Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Serdar Berdimuhamedov has sent congratulations to servicemen and employees of military and law enforcement agencies on the occasion of Defender of the Fatherland Day.
In his address, the head of state emphasized that this holiday symbolizes the immense trust placed in servicemen and law enforcement personnel who defend the sacred independence, permanent neutrality, sovereignty, territorial integrity, constitutional order, and inviolability of the country.
The year 2026 marks the 35th anniversary of the country’s sacred independence. The President noted that this historic date is observed “as a symbol of the centuries-old aspirations of our brave ancestors to establish an independent state”.
“Defending the Motherland is a national school of valor,” President Serdar Berdimuhamedov stressed. The courage and patriotism demonstrated by professionally trained, physically and spiritually healthy servicemen during military exercises conducted across the country symbolize the continuity of the principles of their ancestors.
The President particularly highlighted the large-scale work being carried out within the Armed Forces to train fearless warriors who are always ready to ensure peace and prosperity for the Motherland, as well as to educate knowledgeable and devoted generations committed to military service.
President Berdimuhamedov called on the defenders of the Fatherland to steadfastly adhere to the principles of peace, friendship, brotherhood, and trust; to consider the duty of protecting the Motherland above all else; and to master scientific achievements and the art of war to perfection.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed firm confidence that servicemen and law enforcement personnel will remain loyal to their high duty of protecting the sacred independence, the status of permanent neutrality (thrice recognized at the international level), and national values — and, if necessary, will not spare their lives for this cause.
The President also noted that, in a relatively short historical period, the Armed Forces of Turkmenistan — guided by the Military Doctrine — have transformed into a powerful army equipped with modern weaponry and military technology and making full use of digital systems capabilities.
At present, the state pays special attention to improving the living, service, and working conditions of the defenders of the Fatherland and their families. On the eve of Defender of the Fatherland Day, numerous new service and socio-domestic complexes for military personnel and law enforcement employees were opened and put into operation.
Defender of the Fatherland Day is celebrated annually in Turkmenistan on 27 January. The holiday is dedicated to the creation and formation of the country’s own Armed Forces in 1992. ///nCa, 27 January 2026
