On 23 January 2026, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov held talks with U.S. Secretary of the Army Daniel Driscoll and Sergio Gor, the U.S. Special Envoy for South and Central Asia and Ambassador to India. The high-level delegation arrived in Turkmenistan on an official visit to discuss prospects for expanding bilateral cooperation.
The American side expressed gratitude to President Berdimuhamedov for the meeting and satisfaction with the ongoing dialogue between the two countries. In response, the Turkmen leader emphasized that Ashgabat attaches great importance to deepening mutually beneficial relations with the United States, grounded in principles of mutual respect, trust, and understanding.
A significant portion of the discussion focused on recollections of President Berdimuhamedov’s visit to Washington last November, where he participated in the Central Asia–United States summit and held a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump. President Berdimuhamedov described this format as an effective platform for addressing critical issues in security, economy, climate change, and energy.
Both sides noted the active political dialogue between Ashgabat and Washington in recent years, which enables constructive exchanges of views on global challenges, including sustainable development, regional security, and combating climate change.
Particular emphasis was placed on the trade and economic dimension of the partnership. For many years, Turkmenistan has successfully implemented major projects in collaboration with leading American companies. In this context, the important role of the Turkmen-American Business Council was highlighted as an effective mechanism for supporting business ties.
At the conclusion of the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the U.S. delegation members exchanged best wishes for the further strengthening of interstate relations based on mutual understanding and trust.
