ASHGABAT — Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian met with Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Turkmenistan’s former president and current National Leader, on Thursday evening, emphasizing the need for enhanced global cooperation amid what both leaders described as unprecedented international challenges.
The meeting followed Mr. Pezeshkian’s arrival from Kazakhstan for the International Forum of Peace and Trust, which commemorated the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality.
Mr. Pezeshkian stressed the necessity of “trust, peace, and unity among nations,” noting that “today’s world faces unprecedented challenges that demand stronger communication and cooperation between countries.” He described the forum as a “timely and necessary platform.”
Mr. Berdimuhamedov, who chairs the Halk Maslahaty, or People’s Council, welcomed Iran’s participation and noted the “complexity of current global dynamics” and the “significance of enhanced dialogue and consultation.” He praised “strong bilateral relations with Iran, particularly in trade, culture, and humanitarian cooperation,” expressing hope for deepening these ties.
The discussion highlighted Turkmenistan’s role in hosting the forum as a platform for fostering trust, security, and stability at both global and regional levels. Both leaders emphasized the importance of stronger dialogue among nations navigating complex international dynamics.
No new agreements or concrete initiatives were announced. The meeting reinforced mutual support for the forum’s objectives and underscored the positive trajectory of bilateral friendship between Tehran and Ashgabat.
