On 25 August 2025, during a visit to China, Oguljahan Atabayeva, Vice-President for Medical Activities of the Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Charitable Foundation for Assistance to Children in Need of Care, met with Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng, according to the news portal “Yicai.com.”
Gong Zheng emphasized that the friendship between China and Turkmenistan has deep historical roots, and Shanghai highly values its established ties with the Turkmen side. In recent years, cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, and culture has grown increasingly close. The mayor expressed hope that, through the opportunities provided by the Belt and Road Initiative, both sides could further strengthen collaboration in areas such as economy, investment, culture, and tourism. This would enable a new level of mutually beneficial cooperation and breathe fresh energy into the traditional friendship between the peoples of both nations.
“We are actively developing the concept of a child-friendly city and continuously improving our system of care and support. We look forward to enhancing interaction and implementing joint projects in the areas of children’s healthcare, assistance, and volunteer activities to jointly promote the health and comprehensive development of children,” Gong Zheng noted.
In turn, Oguljahan Atabayeva highly praised the stable development of friendship between Turkmenistan and China, as well as the deepening of cooperation in various fields. She described Shanghai as a vibrant city, whose developmental achievements are truly impressive. Atabayeva stressed that children are the future of the nation, and the Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Charitable Foundation prioritizes their health, education, and development. She expressed confidence that further deepening of interaction and cooperation between Turkmenistan and China would create more opportunities for the healthy growth of children in both countries.
