The international chess festival “Russian Chess Crown,” organized by the Chess Federation of the Moscow Region from 17 to 28 February 2026, has concluded in the Moscow region. This prestigious tournament confirmed its high status by bringing together approximately 500 participants from more than 20 countries. The Turkmenistan team participated by special invitation from Sergey Karjakin, Senator of the Russian Federation, President of the Moscow Region Chess Federation, and International Grandmaster.
The classical chess competitions were held according to the Swiss system over 10 rounds, with a time control of 90 minutes + 30 seconds per move. Tournament “A” was characterized by a high density of results and intense competition throughout the distance.
The winner of Tournament “A” was Russian Grandmaster Boris Savchenko (rating 2445)—the Moscow Champion of 2008, 2016, and 2019, as well as the Moscow Rapid Chess Champion of 2015 and 2021. He demonstrated consistent and confident play, confirming his elite status.
Special attention was drawn to the successful performance of the Turkmen female chess players, who showed significant progress and a high level of preparation:
- Lala Shokhradova (WFM, rating 2110): Strengthened her position by adding 22 rating points, making a vital contribution to the women’s team’s overall success.
- Leyla Shokhradova (WCM, rating 2183): In Tournament “A” (classical), she took 5th place among women, finishing just half a point shy of achieving an International Master norm.
- Myahri Agamuradova (rating 1926): Secured 1st place among women in Tournament “D” (classical), demonstrating confident and mature play.
- Dzhanan Rejepova (rating 2051): Earned 3rd place among U16 youth in Tournament “C” (blitz), displaying excellent reflexes, tactical ingenuity, and a fighting spirit.
The male representatives of the Turkmenistan national team also delivered worthy performances:
- Meilis Annaberdiev (International Grandmaster, rating 2424): Finished in 17th place (out of 15 main prizes), confirming his high level of play and competitiveness on the international stage.
- Amanmuhammet Khammadov (FIDE Master, rating 2269): Achieved significant progress, increasing his rating by 31.4 points—one of the team’s most notable individual achievements.
- Vepaly Khalynyazov (rating 2195): Showed a substantial rating boost, increasing his score by 35.8 points.
The successful performance of the Turkmen female chess players, combined with the steady play of the men’s national team, confirms the systemic growth of the national chess school.
