Social Studies Being Introduced in Turkmenistan Schools

Ashgabat, 17 June 2007 (nCa) --- With the start of the new academic year the school system in Turkmenistan would introduce social studies as a separate subject.

As part of the ongoing educational reforms to bring the quality and depth of education to the world standards, Turkmenistan is developing textbooks and teaching material for teaching social studies to the schoolchildren.

The presidential resolution “On improvement of the work f the educational establishments” issued on 4 March 2007, demands that social science should acquaint the students with the laws of human social life and basic standards of politics, sociology, economics and ecology.

The syllabus that has already been approved touches on social philosophy, political science, economy, sociology, jurisprudence, ethics, aesthetics and ecology. As the children move higher in the school system, the teaching of social sciences will gain breadth and depth.

The textbook written by the local authors is divided into two parts. The first part consists of society and its structure, society and human social action and spiritual and moral aspects of human life.

The second part, to be taught to senior students, contains basic elements of economic life of society, political and social aspects and interrelation between the society and nature.

While studying the social science, the students would get acquainted with the works of the great minds of mankind such as Plato, Socrates, Aristotle, Seneca, Farabi, Avicenna and Machiavelli.
