Ashgabat, 7 October 2008 (nCa) --- President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov of Turkmenistan sent Monday a message of condolence to the president of Kyrgyzstan, expressing sympathy and support for the victims of the magnitude-8 earthquake in Altai district of southern Kyrgyzstan that has left at least 72 dead and dozens wounded.
The dead include 30 children below the school age, 11 students, and 12 pensioners.
The earthquake at this time of year poses extraordinary challenges for the impoverished government of Kyrgyzstan as the winter is approaching fast and the homeless would need adequate shelter, clothing and food. Donors would need to act fast.
