Turkmenistan Sets Rice Production Target for 2007

Ashgabat, 15 June (nCa) --- Turkmenistan expects to produce 60000 tons of rice in 2007.
The goal was set Thursday by a presidential resolution that tasks the agricultural joint stock companies in Dashoguz and Lebap provinces to conclude contracts with farmers for purchase of their produce.
The presidential resolution “On Rice Production in Turkmenistan in 2007” says that farmers should sow rice on 16000 hectares of land.
The state target for rice production is 60000 tons of which Dashoguz province should produce 22500 tons on 6000 hectares and Lebap 37500 tons on 10000 hectares.
