Javier Solana to Visit Turkmenistan 8-9 October
Ashgabat, 7 October 2007 (nCa) --- Javier Solana, EU High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), will Turkmenistan on 8-9 October 2007.
During his visit Solana is expected to meet President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov and foreign minister Reshit Meredov.
“Solana’s visit to Central Asia, in the framework of the new European Union Strategy for Central Asia, will provide an opportunity to discuss the bilateral relations with the EU and the latest developments in each of the three countries visited, as well as regional issues and EU-Central Asia relations in general,” says an EU press release issued from Brussels.
“Political and energy and security issues as well as economy and cooperation will also be discussed during the visit,” the press release says.
From Turkmenistan, Solana will fly to Kyrgyzstan on 9 October where he will meet President Kurmanbek Bakiev and have a working dinner with Prime Minister Almazbek Atambaev.
In Kazakhstan, Solana will meet President Nursultan Nazarbaev on 10 October. He will have a working lunch with foreign minister Marat Gazhin.
During his visit to Central Asia, Solana will also meet the members of the business community.
