Turkmenistan Steps up Military Reforms

Ashgabat, 23 June 2007 (nCa) --- President Berdymuhammedov demanded Friday accelerated pace of military reforms in Turkmenistan.

During a meeting of the cabinet of ministers he told defence minister General Agageldy Agamamedov to perk up the tempo and quality of military transformation to bring the armed forces of Turkmenistan in line with world standards.

Turkmenistan is building its armed forces on the doctrine that a neutral country should not harbour any aggressive designs against anyone but its armed forces should be able to defend the motherland against any threat.

The present reforms are aimed at improving the qualitative edge of the armed forces of Turkmenistan.

During the meeting President Berdymuhammedov endorsed some appointments recommended by the defence ministry.

Col Bayramgeldi Akhummedow has been appointed chief of the land forces of Turkmenistan.

Lt. Col. G Annamammedov has been appointed commander of the 22nd motor-shooting section Major A Berdiyev will head the 2nd motor-shooting training section. Major A Ataev will lead 3rd motor-shooting military section.

Lt. Col. N Myalikguliyev has been nominated new head of the Takhtabazar border forces and Major B Kakabaev has been appointed head of Kaakhka border division.

The defence minister presented the designs of some new military uniforms for guard of honour. Berdymuhammedov recommended some changes and improvements in the design.
