IOM Seminar in Turkmenistan

Ashgabat, 17 June 2007 (nCa) --- A seminar sponsored by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) was held Friday in Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan.
The seminar – Contemporary issues of human migration: Prospects for the East European and Central Asian countries – was arranged by IOM together with the government of Turkmenistan.
The participants included members of the parliament, representatives of the foreign office, law enforcement agencies, Turkmen national institute of democracy and human rights, UN structures, OSCE, Red Cross and diplomats accredited in Turkmenistan.
International experts delivered reports improving and regulating the migration process in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Special focus was maintained on causes and trends of labour migration, ways to prevent human trafficking, methods of repatriating the victims of human trafficking and their social adaptation, strengthening of border controls and need for efficient partnership between the competent bodies of the countries in the eastern Europe and central Asian regions.
