United Nations in Turkmenistan launches its new website
Ashgabat, 8 February 2008 (nCa) --- The United Nations Office in Turkmenistan launched its dedicated website on Wednesday to raise the global profile of its work for the people of Turkmenistan, to highlight more than fifteen years of development collaboration with the Government and to inform about the new directions of the UN’s programmes in the country.
The URL for the website is: http://www.untuk.org
The website provides insights into the lives of Turkmenistan’s people and into the ongoing work of the UN System in the country as it works with the Government to fulfil the goals set out in the 2005-2009 five year development plan – the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF). A new generation UNDAF for the period 2010-2014 will be developed this year and the website will provide regular updates on progress in this joint exercise with Government.
“The website will serve as an effective tool in disseminating information about Turkmenistan’s socio-economic developments as well as the United Nations’ ongoing support to reforms. We believe that the website will attract both viewers from this country and those overseas interested in developments in Turkmenistan, the challenges faced and the UN’s strategies and programmes to assist progress towards democracy, human rights and social wellbeing of its people,” commented Mr. Richard Young, UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan.
The website viewers will be able to download “Turkmenistan and the United Nations: Partners for Change”, a publication released in December 2007 by the UN System and the Government of Turkmenistan, as well as other publications and news feeds about the UN. The site also depicts the work of UN agencies and affiliated organizations based in Turkmenistan, including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), World Health Organization (WHO), World Bank (WB), and International Organization for Migration (IOM). For more detailed information on the work of each UN agency represented in Turkmenistan, links to their websites are available.
Also available on the new site, which will be regularly updated by the UN staff, are photographs covering all aspects of the UN’s work in Turkmenistan, and news releases of recent significant events. For those interested in working for the UN in Turkmenistan, or providing services, an “Opportunities” page is included on the website.
The new website will serve the needs of development professionals, government partners, academicians, students, donors, journalists, and all people who seek information on the development work the United Nations implements in Turkmenistan. [Write up courtesy UN System in Turkmenistan]
