BMW Launches X5 Series Luxury SUV in Turkmenistan
Ashgabat, 23 October 2007 (nCa) --- In a colourful ceremony Monday evening, the BMW officially launched here the X5 series luxury SUV that has already become the industry standard in its own class.
Autohaus GmbH, the authorized BMW dealer in Turkmenistan, is marketing three models of X5: 3.0si, 3.0d and 4.8i.
Priced at about Euro 60000 per unit, the vehicle can be purchased by either cash payment or transfer of deposit Manats. In case of payment through deposit Manats, the conversion rate would be 22800 Manats to a dollar.
BMW X5, a mid-size luxury crossover SUV, is in production since 1991. Designed by Chris Bangle, the X5 has changed very little over the years because the design has struck the fancy of urban SUV lovers.
The success of X5 forced Porsche, Audi and Volkswagen to come up with their own SUVs in the same category.
The takeover of Rover by BMW was a crucial step in creation of X5. Some design elements of X5 came directly from Range Rover.
BMW came to the Turkmen market not very long ago but it has already created a cozy niche for itself. Last year BMW sold 116 units in Turkmenistan. This year’s sales are expected to exceed easily last year’s sales figures.
