Ashgabat, 25 July 2007 (nCa) --- Turkmenistan is developing indigenous capacity to build rail and road bridges, viaducts, overpasses and culverts.

Ministry of railways will soon have a separate bridge construction department employing 750 full time officers and staff.

In order to minimize the necessity of external buying the department will have two manufacturing units for production of reinforced concrete panels and other design elements.

The ministry of railways will soon float tenders for purchase of 10 complete sets of bridge-building equipment.

Within the next three years Turkmenistan will construct or rebuild 186 engineering objects on highways and railway lines.

The present capacity of Turkmenistan allows for construction of bridges up to 66 meters long and 20 meters high but this is not enough to meet the challenges posed by the expansion plans for rail and road network.
